Look like this east Asian trip in January could be longer than usual - as well as the already-announced Japan/Taiwan/Hong Kong shows, the rumours on a Malaysian show persist and a show in Singapore is reported for 23rd Jan. The gap between Hong Kong and Malaysia makes me wonder whether they're off to China for the first time as well? ive just come back from the hong kong gig, really impressed at the volume, pure brutal in your face loudness ! my ears are still ringing for 2 days, will be at their singapore gig, maybe perth one as well (if i can sort out a "business" trip), my ears look set for a whopping. btw what a combo : like herod and batcat

Newspaper review of the Malaysia gig here: www.star-ecentral.com/news/story.asp?file=/2009/1/26/music/3107084&sec=musicIn the quiet passages of Mogwai Fear Satan, one could hear a pin drop in the crowd. Tingling with anticipation at the impending jump into the distorted middle section, some of the crowd couldn’t contain themselves and cheered, nearly ruining the moment. Other audience members then proceeded to shush them as librarians would, in time to redeem the silence for the coming thunderclap.

i think most of the crowd didn't really know how to react really. we were quiet most of the time because some people --including my friends-- tend to hush people when they start to scream haha.. but anyways i was really blown away by the concert. it was my first and it was a blast. wow..

the Crippled Black Phoenix dates run from 2nd April (Chicago) down the eastern states to South Carolina (17th April). The only Mogwai date on sale so far is Houston, 20th April. If this is one of the first shows on the Mogwai tour, maybe Dominic is doing the CBP shows and then the Mogwai tour? He's going to be one very tired boy if so!

not sure how much say mogwai have in their ticket pricing (or even the ticketing company they use in the US) but goddamn, tickets for the Orpheum Theater show in LA were $25 face value. after Ticketbastard's ridiculous (in)convenience charges and other bullshit charges, one ticket came out to $42.

So I haven't been keeping up with mogwai news in 2009 for whatever reason, and I've previously bitched about the lack of Dublin shows over the past couple years... and then last night I discovered there are THREE. So I bought a ticket for every night and two for Sunday. 135 euro with booking fees (f.u. ticketmaster).
This will be my sixth, seventh, and eighth time seeing them, I think. I've sort of lost count.

Asheville's ORANGE PEEL and Carrboro's CAT'S CRADLE! Us UNC-Asheville kids will get a 2-day 'gwai rush, making the 4-hour drive over to the Cradle the following day! I hope they play 'Sun Smells Too Loud" and/or My Father My King.
